Language Interpreter - Introduction

Target audience:
Fluency (reading, writing, speaking and understanding) in a foreign language, as well as in English, is a prerequisite for this course.
Brief description:
This first-level course in community language interpretation will introduce students to the principles of providing language services (interpreting) to various provincial and municipal agencies. Basic terminology and skills used in language interpreting will be presented. Participants will examine the roles and responsibilities of an interpreter, and will be encouraged to explore the ethics of this profession. Opportunities will be provided to practice the constituent tasks of interpreting, such as proper note taking, active listening skills, etc. Aptitude evaluation for this growing specialization will be offered.
