Welcome to IMIA Social Media Division!

Today, we engage with our members and the public in a more direct way through social media, among which are LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Social media is a more immediate, interactive and democratic way of reaching and interacting with our audience. Most of us are users of mobile technology which further enhances the ubiquity of these venues and which allows for current feedback on issues that we advocate for. We are more interconnected because of this phenomenon. As we are all aware, medical interpreting can be an isolating career because we seldom have the opportunity to be with our colleagues (on a daily basis) except for national conferences and workshops. Social media has changed all that, bringing together people across the globe in more ways that were uncommon before.
