Trainers Division
Are you an interpreter trainer or instructor? Join your colleagues in other institutions in our monthly discussions. The main objective of this group is to serve as a support group for interpreter trainers, instructors, educators, and language coaches, and to promote discussions that will disseminate best practices for professional medical interpreter education.

IMIA Trainer Division Chair
Brenda Hernandez Ms. Brenda Hernandez holds a combined certificate in Translation and Interpretation from the City University of New York at Hunter College. Ms. Hernandez has been a Spanish Medical Interpreter for the past decade working in both public and private hospitals throughout New York City. Brenda is a Bridging the Gap Trainer of Trainers and a Translation Quality Assessment Rater for Hablamos Juntos. Ms. Hernandez has interpreted for over thirty conferences for such New York City agencies as the Department of the Aging, the Department of Human Rights, the Department of Education and the New York City HIV Panning Committee. In addition, Brenda has interpreted for the World Health Organization at the United Nations. Brenda is a certified court interpreter through New York State Unified Court. Brenda has been a panelist at the New York State Department of Health Conference on the Importance of Cultural Competency in Health Care for the past three years.
Brenda is currently an adjunct instructor at New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies, where she teaches Introduction to Medical interpreting and is a full time Spanish Medical Interpreter at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Contact: imiatrainersdivision@imiaweb.org.

Serving in a chapter, committee or division leadership role provides enormous opportunities, both professionally and personally. IMIA Chairs frequently find themselves becoming more successful in their own careers as they develop additional skills, make useful business connections, and share ideas with other division members. The IMIA Administration provides support and mentoring for their success. Preference shall be given to candidates with previous involvement in the activities of the organization.
