IMIA Celebrates Its 25th Year Anniversary

Minnesota Chapter

Welcome to the Minnesota Chapter of the IMIA. The IMIA's goal is for all IMIA Chapters to flourish to meet all the needs of the members of each region. While the IMIA is international it believes in the 'Think Global, Act Local' motto. We will have periodic conference calls to allow members in this region to network and find ways to advance the profession together in the region. Please email your representative with ideas, issues, and topics that you think should be discussed. The IMIA believes that organizing an IMIA Symposium each year in each state should be a key goal of the Chapter. If you are willing to volunteer to assist, please let your representative know.

MN State Chapter Vice ChairThe IMIA is pleased to announce that Doreen Keepers is the IMIA State Chapter Vice Chair for Minnesota.

My name is Doreen Keepers from Mankato, Minnesota. I have a Bachelors’ degree in teaching English and Spanish. After teaching for three years at a high school in Minnesota, I moved to Guanajuato, Mexico where for the next 20 years I taught English. I spent 2009 in Minnesota preparing for a teaching position in Korea, and in that time started interpreting for LinguaOne. It was immensely gratifying and after completing a year teaching in Korea, I began my new career as an interpreter for LinguaOne in Mankato. I attended the IMIA conference in Boston last October, and in January completed the 40-hour Community Interpreter Training of Trainers by Marjory Bancroft and Lourdes Rubio-Fitzpatrick. That was one of the best courses I’ve ever attended, not only because of the important material covered, but because of the fantastic tools given to us in such a dynamic way. This is a wonderful profession and I look forward to new experiences in helping people every day.
