Spanish Division Chair

Spanish Chair DivisionSyan Ruiz was born in Mexico City in 1975 and moved with his family to the US when he was 12 years old. He realized the importance of learning English as he relied on teachers and students for interpretation during classes and homework assignments. After graduating high school he attended the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, and worked as a volunteer interpreter at Children's Hospital in Washington, DC where he learned the importance of this great profession and the desire to continue it in the near future. After two years as a volunteer, Syan moved to Mexico to work in the artistic field and teach English to Spanish speakers. He came back to Washington, D.C. trained as a Medical interpreter and started working in 2000 as a Medical Interpreter in Children’s National Medical Center. Syan is currently enrolled in the New York University's Translation Studies program where he will receive a Certification in Translation in the fall of 2009.
