Genetic counselors, medical interpreters, translators, other health care professionals, students
The general purpose of this web-based self-instruction education opportunity is to enhance cultural and linguistic competence in genetic counseling settings. The primary audience is genetic counselors, but the educational needs of other target groups were considered when developing the program content, including students, genetic counseling program staff, and other health care providers.
Three (3) major learning outcomes/goals:
1. Participants will be able to identify resources for increasing their cultural knowledge.
2. Participants will know how to apply cultural assessment tools in genetic counseling practice.
3. Participants will engage in cultural self-awareness, resulting in increased recognition of personal biases, limitations, and strengths when working with culturally diverse clients.
This is a self-paced independent study online learning opportunity. Participants work through the cases and answer questions on self-report forms to earn continuing education credit or a Learning Certificate, depending on their discipline and personal preference
