Medical and community interpreter trainers seeking a nationally recognized program that licenses trainers (with no licensing fees) to deliver a 40-hour certificate program in medical, educational AND/OR social services interpreting anywhere in the U.S.
Brief description:
THE COMMUNITY INTERPRETER is the only national 40-hour certificate program in the U.S. that licenses trainers in all sectors of community interpreting. This dynamic, interactive training-of-trainers (TOT) emphasizes skills building, role plays, small group work, video vignettes, discussion and case studies. It is designed to prepare trainers to train interpreters in health care, education and/or social and human services. Since 2004, Cross-Cultural Communications has delivered the TOT program in states from Florida to Hawaii and now offers it once a year in Maryland. The TOT comes in two formats: a six-day format for trainers who have attended another 40-hour or longer program but have NOT attended THE COMMUNITY INTERPRETER; and a four-day format for graduates of THE COMMUNITY INTERPRETER. The longer format begins with a special two-day compressed session of THE COMMUNITY INTERPRETER followed by the regular four-day TOT. All successful graduates are eligible to become licensed in perpetuity to provide the program. Graduates are guaranteed in writing that there will never be licensing fees. Materials include: the 405-page participant manual (5th Ed, 2011), the trainer’s manual, a 131-page exercise workbook, one copy of the Medical Terminology for Interpreters handbook for a separate one-day workshop, a pdf trainer’s guide for the Medical Terminology workshop and licensing in perpetuity for both THE COMMUNITY INTERPRETER and MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY FOR INTERPRETERS at no additional charge beyond the discounted cost of training materials.
