Target audience: Are you bilingual in Spanish and English, with an aptitude for interpreting, and a strong desire to be of service to the medical community? If you are, now is the perfect time to put your language skills and cultural knowledge to good use by enrolling in our Certificate in Healthcare Interpreting. The classes in our Certificate in Healthcare Interpreting focus on the development of applied learning in a cohesive program that prepares bilingual speakers to work as healthcare interpreters.
New state regulations from the California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) require that health plan providers and insurers provide document translation, timely access to healthcare interpreters and quality assurance of interpretation and translation services.
Now more than ever, there is a need for qualified Spanish-English interpreters in the healthcare field. Multiple research studies have shown that using trained healthcare interpreters can improve the quality of patient care, provide better outcomes, lower costs, and greater patient satisfaction.

Brief description:
To receive the Certificate in Healthcare Interpreting (Spanish/English), students must complete the Program Orientation, pass the proficiency test and required courses totaling a minimum of 114 hours of lecture and discussion. 11.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be awarded to the certificate graduate.
