IMIA Technology Division Charter
Executive Overview:
The purpose of the IMIA Technology Division (IMIATD) is to provide industry awareness, industry trends and technical market information to the IMIA board and members. Every association is challenged to understand the technology trends and emerging solutions that influence their members and interpreters.
IMIATD will focus on understanding how technology is changing, how technology is being implemented and how technology impacts interpreting. Awareness will be a fundamental objective of
The IMIATD will reach out to hospitals and establish a Technology Advisory Board (TAB) with participants who have implemented new technical solutions or understand the impact of technology on interpreting. Anyone interested, please send email and thoughts toTechnology@imiaweb.org
Structure:
The IMIATD will be structured with respected members of the industry. This would include:
1 executives who have responsibility for interpreting and patient care in hospitals.
2 executives who have responsibility for languages in the medical market.
3 technologists who understand market trends and alternative solutions
4 consultants who are respected in the industry

The objectives of this presentation will address:
Is technology disruptive or an industry savior? Certainly, there will always be an impact on interpreters and their ability to provide better healthcare. As technology changes today it may not be as easy as one would think to adopt new technology.
What are the issues that interpreters experience with new technology? Is the profession ready and willing to tackle big picture technology issues? As Bill Woods said, “Interpreters will never be replaced by technology; they will be replaced by interpreters who use technology.”
The panel objectives qualify for continuing educational units (CEUs) for the interpreters and others in the audience.

- Establish standards, train and educate interpreters.

IMIA is currently looking for a Technology Division Chairperson

Chairperson Responsibilities:
- To represent the IMIA members in the division/committee
- To promote the profession and the IMIA organization to their division/committee members
- Act as a liaison between the IMIA committee/division members with the IMIA Board of Directors
- Moderate periodic conference calls with members of their division/committee (could be monthly, bimonthly or quarterly)
- To attend periodic IMIA Chairpersons meetings via conference call
- To moderate our yearly Division/Committee face-to-face meeting at IMIA conference or designate an adequate moderator
- To agree to a term of three years concurrent with Board elections
- Update the specific division/committee webpage on IMIA website with information relevant to the initiatives of that division/committee interests
- Other initiatives as deemed necessary for the specific needs of each committee/division
- Chairpersons receive mentoring, assistance, and support to accomplish their goals, by counting on a Chairperson Liaison and also by the Executive Director and the Administrator of the IMIA

Technology Vice Chair: Linda Golley
Linda Golley serves as Manager, Interpreter Services Program at University of Washington Medical Center. Linda Golley has managed outpatient clinics at Harborview and the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) and presently manages the Interpreter Services program at UWMC. Ms. Golley has specialized in care for less affluent communities, including inner city communities of color, disabled and deaf clients, free clinic clients, community clinic clients, and immigrant communities. She developed the Barriers to Care Map as a tool to improve care in all settings and to reduce disparities in care. Linda has a B.A. from Stanford/ UC Berkeley in International Relations, and an M.A. from University of Phoenix in Organizational Management
